9 See Chapter 10 (online) of Sir Robert Anderson’s “The Coming Prince.” He calculated the duration of the first sixty-nine years of Gabriel’s prophecy about the “Seventy Weeks.” This prophecy is recorded in Daniel 9:20-27. The 69 weeks represent 483 years (69 X 7) beginning with the decree issued by Artaxerxes Longimanus in the twentieth year of his reign, authorizing Nehemiah to rebuild the fortifications of Jerusalem. It ends on the very day that Christ offered himself to be King of the Jews, but was rejected by his enemies.

The historian and moralist, who was otherwise known simply as Lord Acton, expressed this opinion in a letter to Bishop Mandell Creighton in 1887: ‘Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Great men are almost always bad men.'” http://www.phrases.org.uk/meanings/288200.html (July 28,2010).
15 The average age of the inhabitants of that first generation was approximately 900 years, and during that span they had very large families. Therefore the population of the earth during Cain’s lifetime could have reached many thousands of people. They were, of course all related, but being so close to the origin of Adam and Eve’s originally perfect gene pool, they did not suffer the birth defects that now accompany inbreeding.
